Bed & Breakfast

On Feb. 16, 2018 Human Support Services (HSS) purchased property at 4505 HH Road in Waterloo with a unique mission – to operate a bed and breakfast where individuals with developmental disabilities could learn, work and pursue independence.

The five-bedroom home had for many years operated as the Waterloo Inn bed and breakfast. HSS leadership and our board of directors saw the property as an opportunity that could benefit both our clients and the community at large.

With guidance and supervision, HSS clients with developmental and intellectual disabilities take the lead in the day-to-day operations of The SeeMore. For them, it is an opportunity to build skills, interact socially and develop careers. For guests, it is a one-of-a-kind experience with staff who can’t wait to make their stay memorable.

As a nonprofit, the hospitality industry didn’t come naturally to any of us. But once again, members of our community stepped up to volunteer, donate and partner with us to help navigate these uncharted waters.

Since we officially opened to guests on July 1, HSS clients have been working a variety of jobs at the bed and breakfast, with help and round-the-clock supervision from HSS staff.

Though there is a similar bed and breakfast being operated by a nonprofit in Clarksville, Mo., this is the first such effort of its kind in Illinois.

The entire project is part of an ongoing effort by HSS to pursue “person-centered” services, which focuses on developing services and supports around the skills, interests, dreams and desires of each individual served, instead of the “one-size-fits-all” services of the past.

So far, guests have told us they love the historic charm of The SeeMore Inn. What’s more, they appreciate a place where everyone, from our guests to our staff, are welcomed and celebrated as part of the family.

The SeeMore Inn offers four guest rooms, each with a private bath. All guests are treated to a full home-cooked breakfast, and have the option to make use of our free shuttle to destinations within 10 miles of the Inn.

We believe one of the best things about our Inn is the joy and enthusiasm our staff brings to their work – and to the guests they meet. We’ve found that joy and enthusiasm to be contagious!

As we continue to learn and explore this unique opportunity, we appreciate any support you or your business may be able to offer. There are several ways you can help:
